DEDICATORIA CHICANA

Dedicatoria Chicana, Poem Francisco X. Alarcón, Drawing Eduardo Carrillo, Moving Parts Press Felicia Rice, letterpress and relief printmaking, 1989. Broadside in an edition of 60.

The broadside of the poem “Dedicatoria Chicana” was one of a series I completed with UCSC students in 1989. In the series I paired the work of writing and art faculty and designed the broadsides, then my Porter College students set type and printed an edition of sixty copies each in my studio. Francisco Alarcón approached Ed Carrillo about a drawing to accompany his poem, I did not speak with Ed directly at that time. This was my first collaboration with Chicano artists and set me on the path I have followed for over 30 years.

Broadsides for 2020 Santa Cruz Community Fire Recovery

The poems in this series were selected by Felicia Rice from the work of noted Santa Cruz poets Ellen Bass, Danusha Laméris, and Gary Young. Each poem addresses issues of loss and recovery in the face of crisis.

Felicia designed and printed these limited edition broadsides in her new studio in Mendocino where she has relocated due to the total loss of her Bonny Doon home and letterpress shop in the CZU August Complex Fire in August 2020.

The broadsides are available for sale at Bookshop Santa Cruz. All sales of the broadsides will be donated by Bookshop Santa Cruz to the Community Foundation Santa Cruz County and Valley Churches United to aid in recovery from the devastating wildfires in August 2020.
